Is this a new process for you?
If so, going to the wholesalers to look for the perfect stone to add to the beauty of your home can be overwhelming. It is important to take your time and not to feel rushed or pressured in to choosing a product. This is something you are going to want to enjoy for the lifetime of the home. Pick a day where you can spend a few hours if needed walking through and possibly to multiple places. It is helpful to bring a cabinet door and any flooring or wall samples to help ensure that the stone will be perfect.
Where do I go?
There are multiple wholesalers reaching from Northern Colorado down through Aurora. Please visit our Granite page in the Product Information to view all of the vendors. Their inventory is also posted on their website to help narrow down the selection before going. If you are interested in the Level 1 Stock Material or remnants we encourage you to set an appointment with our sales staff at our Westminster location. Our sales staff can also meet at the wholesalers if needed.
What do I do when I arrive at the wholesalers?
t is important that you check in with the front desk and they will show you to their “Slab Department”. Once back there they will ask you if you are working with a Fabricator and you can let them know if you have chosen one. They will not quote you pricing but they try to categorize the different stones into price levels or groups to help you stay within your budget. Some places say a Level 2 but the same stone can be classified as a Level 3 at another place. The best way to get accurate pricing is to contact your designer or fabricator.
What do I do if I see ones I like?
It can be confusing looking at all of the materials because it may not be available even though it is in the showroom or slab yard. If you see a color that you like, you need to write down the name of it (and if you can write down the number that is on the floor or on the side of the slab it can help be more specific). You will need to ask the staff to see if there are slabs available of that color (It may be helpful to know the sizes you need from your fabricator to ensure your slab is large enough). If there are slabs available you will need to ask them to pull for you to view.
How to inspect your slabs?
It is important to know that 5280 Stone, The Fabricator, does not work on the surface of the slab unless specified. It is our job to cut the materials and fabricate the edge detail before installing. When the stone is cut out of the ground it is surface polished with a large machine and any cracks (fissures) or holes will be filled with epoxy (also known as “fill”). They try to match the coloring as close as possible to the stone but sometimes it is very noticeable. Unless you are looking for it or someone points it out you may not see it. After the slabs are pulled for you to view feel free to touch and feel to really look over your materials. Sometimes there can be small areas that can be avoided when cutting and other times there is not a good way to avoid it. All materials can contain Epoxy fill, it is just important to look it over and be aware of it.
I have inspected my slabs. What do I do next?
You will place materials on hold under 5280 Stone and your name. It is important to contact us so that we can revise your estimate if needed and begin the contract process. 5280 Stone requires a signed contract and a 50% deposit to order your materials. The wholesaler will only hold materials for a certain period of time and if not ordered they will put them back into their inventory.
